    Family

Filed under: Family, Free time, Video — bm4n @ 11:17 pm

Its totally sweet having talented family; really takes the hard out of posting. All I have to do is sit around waiting for them to do something cool and then BAM! I’ve got a traffic inducing post. It works twofold; see, first I get traffic because, hey! New post! People love new posts (or so I tell myself). Then they (siblings) see themselves all famous on teh (yes, I misspelled “the”on purpose) internets and tell their friends…Those kids see one paragraph of my witty internet writing and they’re instantly hooked right in…And they connected with me too becuz I look like them…Sorry for the random Eminem lyrics. I swear I don’t listen to Eminem. OK, I don’t (swear I don’t listen to Marshall). But it’s not like I’m the only one; I challenge you to find a single white person who doesn’t secretly love Eminem. The best part about that challenge is that you can’t prove it wrong. Anyone who says they don’t totally <3 Em is obviously lying…Yay Freudian psychology!

I think I got a bit off track there, where was I…Oh, right: talented siblings. My sister and bro made this video about killer pants and car crashes. Also Cameron cries in it so it’s totally worth a view. Vid after the break:

    A Parody

I have an essay on the “Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass” due tomorrow. About two and a half hours ago I set about to skim through the book to get a sense of it. I found myself drawn in and read almost every word of this little book. Today in our lecture on slavery I felt a rage and hatred for slavery and the general mistreatment of our brothers so strongly…Seeing the students to either side of me giggling and sleeping while images of our black brethren being whipped and beaten shined bright on a 30 foot screen in front of us made me depressed and upset, but for others than myself. I ended up writing a song that in my head came from the guttural scream of Zach De La Rocha (lead singer of Rage Against the Machine).

As I read tonight I felt the pains of an educated man who realized that his purpose in life was to remain in the dark so as not to realize that his lot was so shallow. I hadn’t planned on writing this little post between reading the book and writing my essay but the poem that finished the book struck me deeply. I guess this is a little bit of a heavier topic than I usually deal with but its how I’m feeling now. The poem is called “A Parody” and can be read below; as a pretext, it is about the hypocrisy of the “Christian” religion of the slave owners. The sad part about it is that it is more than applicable today to the “Christian” religions used throughout America and, indeed, the world to justify “the most horrid crimes.”

    Tastykakes Part II!!!

I’m sure you remember a few weeks ago when I posted about my Tastykake experience. Well I got a reply today! And let me say, the reply I got was much tastier than the letter I sent…That’s right, my trust in the Tastykake company was not misplaced; they sent me one of the most wonderful packages I have ever received, a “gift box of only our (Tastykake’s) finest sweet baked goods.” There are several places in their letters/packaging where they recommend I eat these as soon as possible, and let me say: that is completely unnecessary as I will be sure to take care of the devouring of these treats as soon as possible.

So I am happy. And I have included images of both letters I received today as well as the box of treats below for all curious…I hope this series of posted events removes any doubts any of my readers had about the Tastykake Tasty Baking Company. I will now move forward with renewed vigor and faith in the world. Thanks, Tastykake!

    The Illusionist

So the other night there was a little church/Wii get together thing for the mixing and mingling and ultimately enjoying each other’s company of young single adults of my ward so that, hopefully, we could fulfill our collective roles as members of a Singles Ward by getting married. After the rager died down a bit someone threw on a movie…I guess they weren’t looking when they chose it or are just a huge fan of pathetic cinema, but they chose “The Illusionist.” Now I didn’t give the movie the time of day as I recall watching it on an airplane once and hating it…Hating it so much, in fact, that I was inspired to write about how sad it was (not sad the emotion, sad as in pathetic). I couldn’t remember exactly why it sucked so I decided to track that review down and, as it turns out, I’d posted it on here. Now I’m not one to repost past materials…No, wait, I am. And that’s what I’m doing (with minor grammatical/spelling/flow issues minorly (is that even a word (nested parentheses are way cool and completely under-utilized)?) corrected). So continue on if you’d like to see why this movie isn’t worth the 35mm film or plastic disc (depending on the location of the showing) that it is printed on.

    Directions

I don’t know if anybody has realized this lately but this blog has been going in all sorts of crazy directions…I mean no coherence. Not that I’ve attempted it. One day you’ll hear about my woes as a student, the next you’ll think you were reading some crummy video game magazine with poor writing…Well I’m not sure what the deal is with that. I just post whatever I’m feeling, and apparently I’m so stuffed with commercials and the American spirit of over-consumption that what I’m usually feeling is product. But what’re you gonna do, right? Anyway, I was feeling something earlier that I don’t believe was rooted in commercialism, but I could be wrong. Its a poem I wrote in church a few weeks ago.

    Sawdust Pt. 2

Filed under: Free time, Music — bm4n @ 3:38 am

OK, this one’s pretty good. A few weeks ago I posted the two newest tracks on the upcoming Killers album Sawdust, which is set to release on 11/13/2007…You’ll notice that’s 3 days from now (at least it was when I originally wrote this; I was having issues getting the tracks compatible with iTunes and then I had some church thing…But everything’s super now). Well tonight I’ve done myself one better and assembled the entire album for your enjoyment. More info/download link after the break ;)

    Rock Band Band

Filed under: Free time, Music, Video Games — bm4n @ 10:27 pm

Hi! I’ve had at least one person bug me over the past few days about my lack of an update and let me tell you: it feels AWESOME! I’m really not feeling up to writing today but I was struck by a hilarious video…But first, the pretext. I’m sure all of you have heard of a little game called “Guitar Hero.” Well the company who made it (Harmonix) no longer own the rights (thus Guitar Hero 3 is from a different company; nonetheless still a rocking game) so they have decided to go a slightly different direction…I’m talking of course about Rock Band.

The premise to Rock Band is to get a bunch of your friends together and MELT FACES. Its really one of the best concepts around; the implementation, however, will still have to be proven.
