    Week one, in retrospect

Filed under: Free time, Radio Braxton — bm4n @ 11:12 pm

    Hi gang!

It’s been a good week…I started this radio station and have done a live show every night at 8PM Eastern. I’ve decided to call this broadcast “Radio Braxton” and the daily live show I do “I <3 Braxton” since they are definitely two separate entities. I think in the beginning I wasn’t really sure of the direction I wanted to take with the show. I think I may have wanted to do a comedy show but that’s just not going to work with the current setup. I feel like for comedy I would need to have a lot of regular bits, including a regular co-DJ. I just don’t have the time to write that every day. I feel like if I was broadcasting video it would be much easier to do comedy. Then I tried an anarchy show the other day…Too crazy. I think tonight’s and Saturday’s (the first night) shows are my favorite. I like the first show because Micah and I had good conversation, some callers, and I believe we played music as well. Tonight was very laid back and chill. I never ended up getting any calls but that was alright because I was able to talk casually and play a lot of really good music in between. That’s what I want.

An ideal show, to me, would involve a quick opening, and then I would bring on my special guest. I would semi-interview/converse while introducing music and take Skype calls periodically from people who had questions for my guest. This would give the show order and keep it from feeling like it’s going no where. Hopefully it will be engaging/entertaining as well. So I’ve spent the past few hours working on this and I’ve got one stop forward: browser streaming! You’ll notice at the top of this post is a little player…That is Radio Braxton! The same place where my live show will be broadcast each night and music is being played in the mean time.

I’m still working on the website and some other features I hope to be rolling out soon including live chat and polls. I’ve decided not to broadcast on the weekend for a number of reasons, one of which being that I can use the extra time to work on the broadcast so that hopefully next week we don’t spend half our time fixing technical issues on the air ;)

I definitely appreciate every single person who tuned in this week. I had a really good time making the show and I hope you enjoyed listening. I hope you tune in next week starting Monday so that we can all help the show (and station) grow together. I’ve got a link to tonight’s show below that you can listen to or download. As always, comments are appreciated!

Clever title with the word ‘five’ in it

    Whatup,

Finished my fifth broadcast tonight, the fourth straight. Tonight was a much more mellow show, we kept the guests to two or three at a time while limiting their time on air. The whole show had Ghosts playing in the background from Nine Inch Nails, which I recommend you check out…It’s a very chill album, all instrumental, released for free online; you can get it here.

The more listeners I’m getting the more feedback as well, which is very nice. I’m still working on the web site as well as switching broadcasting clients for more reliability/usability. I’m thinking what I should do is get an outline of different topics, etc. to cover ready before the show so that I’m prepared. I also think that my main focus should remain talking but a song or two every fifteen minutes would help keep balance. Let me know what you think, if you have any ideas, or you’d like to help out at all.

I’m sorry I didn’t post this earlier but I’ve been working on renewing my addiction, I mean subscription, to WoW and afterwards I picked up my SWEET NEW SNOWBOARD! Check it!

Yeah buddy! So here’s the show, listen comment, let’s all grow together…If you hate it I can’t fix it so that you love it if you don’t tell me why!

Oh yeah, and thanks for everyone who listened tonight! I really appreciate it, I had fun and I hope you did too. Thanks for all of our callers and to Trent Reznor and the rest of NIN for Ghosts. Keep spreading the word!

    Fourth time’s a charm!

    Alright people:

Tonight’s show was awesome! Seriously! I don’t know how it is to listen to but it was loads of fun to make. We had over ten people involved tonight between listening and talking. Probably too many talking these are things we work out over time; for now, it was fun to make and why don’t you let me know how it sounded?! You can listen to it below if you missed it, which is likely. It is looking as though we are coming up to a regular listener-ship which has me all sorts of excited. We’ve also got an official Facebook group now here: FACEBOOK GROUP.

After the show I had about two hours to kill while the mp3 was being encoded and I got the gist of my radio site designed in my head. It’s going to be very simple, hopefully intuitive, and future-ly interactive. I actually just had the interactive idea while I was typing this. But it’s good.

I’ve also decided that having three blogs was a terrible idea. I need four. JUST KIDDING. I’m going to dissolve bm4n.com and ilovebraxton.com so that bm4n.com comes back here again and ilovebraxton.com will be the home of the radio show still tentatively known as Radio Braxton. I can’t think of anything else to say. So listen to tonight’s recorded show below and be sure to tune in to the live broadcast HERE tomorrow at 8PM Eastern time.

    Third show, fourth day

    Gang:

Just got done with my third live show on my new internet radio station, radio.eternalnoob.net…None of you were there. That’s not true, we had up to five listeners tonight (not counting second hand listeners) and two different (albeit very similar) callers. There was a lot of music played to fill in the time but I enjoyed myself and I think my listeners did. As always if you missed the show you can listen/download it below. I’d appreciate and encourage any and all comments/criticisms you may have…I do plan on continuing this show on the daily so it’d be best to fix stuff before it gets worse, right?

The point is tune in tomorrow! And have a sweet day.

    I don’t usually protest, but…

I usually avoid speaking out on things that are way beyond me. Because it seems like to point out one injustice is to ignore infinite others. And I’m always worried that it’s my ignorance that makes things seem out of control. When the media tells you something isn’t right do you believe them? I don’t know. But violence in all forms is wrong, methinks, and Chinese violence towards certain groups is more than propaganda; it is reality…Or so I believe, to the best of my knowledge. So…Boycott?

Round 2, but really round 3

    Oh man, guys

I was so tired tonight. I absolutely didn’t want to broadcast a show but I figured the best way to make it regular was to do it…regularly. Brilliant, right? Well despite my letting you all know that there would be shows starting today at 8PM Eastern from now on I had zero visitors. I ended up with 2 visitors after IMing 2 people and seeing if they wanted to Skype in…It was pretty good though because a lot of crap broke today and so it was a good technical test part 2. Maybe if I ever get everything working like it should I can worry about network tests. Any way about fifty-five minutes into the broadcast I noticed that Audacity had stopped recording and I had missed the middle fifty minutes. I guess it’s for the best; it was weak. But I recorded the end anyways so you can listen to the beginning and end and hopefully realize that I was serious when I invited you to listen every day at 8PM Eastern time.

Any ways, here’s what I got of tonights show:

In other news, I got my camera back from Sony today…Yahoo Mountain Dew! And my foot is feeling better. My doc said not to undress it or not-crutch on it for 2 weeks…I undressed it last night and walked on it all day. Hopefully I’ll be able to snowboard on it this week as I’m getting my new board this week! Yay for Lib-Tech!!!

    That’s the show!

    Hey! Gang!

I know for a fact I personally contacted about fifty people for the live show tonight! We had a peak of five listeners…I’m gonna call that a success but we want more listeners in the future! It’s so easy! Just come here and click on Radio Braxton LIVE! Above! Or go to http://radio.eternalnoob.net. Any ways the show was, as advertised, from about 8PM eastern until 9:30 or so. We had two special guest DJs, and one possible permanent DJ, but you’ll have to listen to find out who ;) We talked, we laughed, we cried, we played music…It was a good time.

If you’re feeling pretty bad now about missing the FIRST Live broadcast don’t feel TOO bad, it will be up for download in a few short minutes. And I will give everybody more notice in the future via this blog about the next show; plan on Monday at 8PM Eastern time with possible air times Sunday and Monday afternoon for the HostRocket audience. So just keep hitting F5 and soon there will be a download link below.

Thanks for everyone that made my first broadcast a sweet success!
