    Of sorts

Filed under: Computers, Family, Free time, Snowboarding — bm4n @ 10:51 am

Well, looks like it’s about time for an update. A lot of junk has been happening over here at eternalnoob.net land and Braxton land as well. Well for starters, I’ve reorganized a lot of my files and updated the links at the top of the page to reflect that. I’ve also added a crap-ton of space to the server and new motherboard with another gig of RAM. I set up smartfooddelicious.com a couple weeks ago and that went strong until the server upgrade. The upgrade took about 2 weeks and I haven’t got to the site since…Not that I don’t have lots of content to put up there. Maybe I’ll start when I get to Utah. Which brings me to the second point of this post:

I’m about to head over to Utah on Wednesday. I’m gonna be there for like 6 weeks or something pursuing my dream of doing nothing and snowboarding. I’ll be with my BFFF, Claire:
    clairebraxton

So I’ll be there. Oh yeah, I set up a family blog too at perdunkle.eternalnoob.net. And a few weeks ago Caleb and I set up a jib on my car which is currently a three-wheeled vehicle. My mom took some video on her camera. Caleb cut it into a video using Windows Movie Maker and Rage Against the Machine. Here it is:

    Welp, see ya later.

Round 2, but really round 3

    Oh man, guys

I was so tired tonight. I absolutely didn’t want to broadcast a show but I figured the best way to make it regular was to do it…regularly. Brilliant, right? Well despite my letting you all know that there would be shows starting today at 8PM Eastern from now on I had zero visitors. I ended up with 2 visitors after IMing 2 people and seeing if they wanted to Skype in…It was pretty good though because a lot of crap broke today and so it was a good technical test part 2. Maybe if I ever get everything working like it should I can worry about network tests. Any way about fifty-five minutes into the broadcast I noticed that Audacity had stopped recording and I had missed the middle fifty minutes. I guess it’s for the best; it was weak. But I recorded the end anyways so you can listen to the beginning and end and hopefully realize that I was serious when I invited you to listen every day at 8PM Eastern time.

Any ways, here’s what I got of tonights show:
    Download:

In other news, I got my camera back from Sony today…Yahoo Mountain Dew! And my foot is feeling better. My doc said not to undress it or not-crutch on it for 2 weeks…I undressed it last night and walked on it all day. Hopefully I’ll be able to snowboard on it this week as I’m getting my new board this week! Yay for Lib-Tech!!!

    I’m LIVE! On teh internets!!

Filed under: Computers, Free time, Introduction, Music, Radio Braxton — bm4n @ 8:26 pm

    Whats up, gang!?

I just got my foot screwed so I’ve been stuck at home all day on pain killers, yay! I spent my time getting icecast to work! That’s a audio stream broadcasting tool…I’m live! Through a mixer, receiver, eq, 2 laptops, and a plethora of software I can come to anybody who downloads my playlist file which can be found here, you can also download the file directly here. So just click there and HEAR me! It will probably be silent unless I’m playing music. Which will be most of the time. BUT, if you CALL me via SKYPE YOU’LL BE ONLINE TOO! All convos through SKYPE will be broadcast. Maybe I’ll have like weekly shows or something. I don’t know. But, if it IS planned I will record it also. So get SKYPE! Get calling! My Skype name will be BraxtronAdvance. You can tune in now just to see what I’m listening to. Plus, maybe I’ll leave my mic on and you can hear me breathing. Creepy.

    The braxtonator

PS - if you call you may be able to see me as well through my webcam ;)
PPS - I think when I go to bed I will just have this crap play audio files at random from my collection. Comments welcome!!
PPPS - I just want to make sure you understand that I can only be live when I’m at my PC and therefore not at work. Also I need calls or something. Or comment when a good time for an hour show would be and I’ll start doing it within the next few days on a daily basis. Yahoo!

    The Great Divide

Filed under: Computers, Free time, Introduction — bm4n @ 2:11 am

So not many people no this but I’ve always had bm4n.com registered and pointing to this site. Well its not any more. After I decided to register the BEST email address ever (braxton[at]ilovebraxton[dot]com) I decided to unique-ify my domains and, in the process, give this site some much needed direction…I’m still working on bm4n.com and ilovebraxton.com but here’s how everything will break down: eternalnoob.net is going to become a site for general news topics about mainly video games, electronics, and music, ilovebraxton.com is going to be where I post things of a more artistic nature such as essays, rambling thoughts, poetry, songs, drawings, etc, and bm4n.com will become my personal site where I will post things about how much crap I haven’t done/will (not) do. So while the sites are live they are a little empty at the moment and you should notice a steady decline in non-news related topics here in the near future.

Any tips, comments, questions, or requests about how this will all play out are, as always, greatly appreciated so let me know what you think! Also, I’ll work on having all three domains pull users from the same database so any one already registered won’t have to do so again…In fact, it would be really cool if all of the posts came from the same database and each had a value that signified it only show up on one of the sites…The odds of that happening are slim to none and the users of the site won’t notice the difference anyway so just pretend like I have a back-end that cool and you’ll be good. Mmmm…That’s all, good night.

    Metal Gear

Filed under: Computers, Free time, Music, Video Games — bm4n @ 1:25 pm

In light my recent drought of game coverage (that was a joke, like all of my newest posts have been focused on some game — but I’m sure you already got that joke because you read this like every day…) I have decided to post about my FAVORITE game/series; the original “Tactical Espionage Action” game featuring the singles greatest hero of all time, underdog Solid Snake; I’m talking about Metal Gear Solid, but more specifically, the Metal Gear series.
    MGS1

As this is like the longest and best thing I have ever written (the subject matter kind of prevents any suckage) you can continue to read this…AFTER THE BREAK! That’s right, from now on I’m cutting down ridiculously long posts by breaking them after I curb your interest…so Read on!

    Oh Em Jee, Trauma!

Filed under: Computers, Free time — bm4n @ 8:51 pm

I just had a traumatic experience. So much so that a new website was in order for this singular purpose. I can’t even begin to describe it here because the mere thought of it makes me shudder…If you think you can handle it head over to bug.eternalnoob.net. And don’t say I didn’t warn you, you may be permanently scarred…

    Jellyfish.com Outwit alert beta

Filed under: Computers, Free time — bm4n @ 9:58 am

I’m gonna go ahead and call the greasemonkey script in the previous post my “alpha build”. Well that makes this edition a beta so that’s what I’m calling it…There really aren’t any improvements, its an identical script only instead of running in greasemonkey, this version has been configured as a Firefox extension which should make it significantly easier to install…Just follow these simple instructions!

The installation steps are as follows:

    1) Be running on Firefox!
    2) Click the link after these instructions (If it asks you what to open the file with, choose Firefox)
    3) Click Install
    4) Restart Firefox
    5) Keep a tab open in Firefox at all times to Jellyfish.com
    6) Enjoy!

Jellyfish Outwit Alert beta Firefox add-on

This is obviously a very rudimentary script. Features I’m planning for the next build are the following:

    - Sound notification!
    - Not have to have jellyfish open in a tab
    - The ability to choose sound, pop up, or both
    - Less intrusive pop-up alerts
    - SMS alerts…;)

Please let me know if you have any ideas at all! Thanks for all the support! And thanks to firewithfire from JF who I snaked most of my script from and Jellyfish.com for creating an awesome site.

    Jellyfish.com Outiwt Alert

Filed under: Computers, Free time — bm4n @ 1:19 pm

    Hello all:

I know this is not the kind of thing I normally post about but I’ve got nowhere else to release it…I’ve been spending (read: wasting) a lot of time lately at www.jellyfish.com (I’m bm4n there). It is a site where items are listed and the price continually drops until the item sells. After the item is gone the users have the ability to participate in a question thing where everybody who chose the least chosen item is given a “guru point.” Guru points are worth nothing at all. But many, like myself, obsessively seek after them and visit the site soley for the points. The problem is that there is such a small window to opt in to the guru guess and vote that people like myself who are not always on the page tend to miss many of the guesses. I have solved that problem.

I have written a small script that runs in greasemonkey in Firefox that displays a pop-up alert when opt in period is starting and anohter when the vote is starting. Its very barebones at this point but in the future I may add things like audio alerts, sexier, more discreet alerts, and hopefully, in a different script, winner tracking. This version is really only a beta that is very limited in what it does so please keep that in mind as you test it out. Please let me know what you think of the script and any ideas for modifications and things of that sort.

    Here is the file: OutwitAlert

Here are the setup instructions, as stolen from firewithfire’s jellybot (Thanks firewithfire!):

Step 1: Download and install Firefox. If you’re not using Firefox already, you should be. This is a wise decision no matter what.

Step 2: Download and install Greasemonkey. Great little plug-in that runs your new and upcoming bot! Remember, it requires a restart of Firefox after you install it.

Step 3: Download and install the OutwitAlert script. If you installed Greasemonkey and restarted Firefox, it should ask if you want to install the script automatically. Feel free to modify the script however you would like.

You can feel free to edit this anyway you like but please give me credit when you do. Also, if you do anything cool with the script I’d love to hear about it!

    Enjoy!

    bm4n

EDIT: I just realized I gave no credit to firewithfire, from JellyFish.com! He wrote a small guru bot for JF and without that my own script would not have been possible…so thank you!
